Job Description

We’re seeking a Principal Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to join a leading US turnkey energy solutions company. This organisation has delivered major projects in collaboration with EPC partners and is now building its own integrated EPC team.

In this role, you’ll take ownership of instrumentation and controls (I&C) technical deliverables, while influencing standards, guidelines, and procedures. Alongside leading design tasks, you’ll mentor junior engineers and collaborate with EPC teams and clients to deliver world-class energy solutions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain I&C technical deliverables, engineering templates, guidelines, and processes
  • Provide technical leadership to engineers and designers, ensuring quality and consistency
  • Manage I&C project scope, schedule, and budget, including change management
  • Perform and review complex design tasks: control logic, network architecture, I/O lists, control narratives, cabinet layouts
  • Review vendor documentation for compliance with technical requirements
  • Support EPC teams with RFIs, technical reviews, procurement, and project milestones
  • Drive continuous improvement in quality, efficiency, and customer satisfaction
  • Mentor and develop junior engineers, fostering a collaborative, high-performance culture

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Controls Engineering
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in Electrical or I&C (preferred)
  • 10+ years of experience in power generation, fossil fuels, or industrial energy
  • 2+ years in a lead engineering or engineering project management role within EPC
  • Skilled in I&C and electrical documentation, and programming logic
  • Experience with Allen Bradley ControlLogix hardware/software (Flex I/O, Studio 5000)
  • Strong knowledge of control systems, communication networks, and balance-of-plant operations
  • Familiar with HMI systems (FactoryTalk View, PlantPAX) and virtual environments (VMWare vSphere)
  • Understanding of construction, estimating, proposals, procurement, and contract administration
  • Knowledge of document control systems and solid business/financial acumen
  • Experience in owner/client-side engineering roles
  • Active involvement in professional industry organisations
