We are currently looking to hire a Director of Preconstruction for one of our clients based in Houston, TX. They are a leading concrete construction firm specializing in large-scale commercial, industrial, and infrastructure projects typically ranging from $60 million upwards. With a strong commitment to excellence in quality, innovation, and client service, the Director of Preconstruction will lead all preconstruction efforts, ensuring successful project planning, estimating, and client engagement.
This is a critical role and will have full responsibility for a range of duties such as budgeting, P&L management, estimating, value engineering, and client collaboration. This leader will be responsible for ensuring projects are competitively bid, accurately estimated, and strategically planned to set up operations for execution success. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in concrete construction, strong financial acumen, and the ability to manage multiple project pursuits simultaneously.
Key Responsibilities
- Preconstruction Leadership: Lead and manage all preconstruction activities, from initial project pursuit through contract execution.
- Estimating & Budgeting: Oversee and refine the estimating process for projects ranging from $60 million upwards, ensuring accuracy and competitiveness.
- Value Engineering: Identify cost-saving opportunities and alternative construction methods while maintaining project quality and design intent.
- Client & Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with owners, developers, architects, and engineers to provide early-stage project guidance and feasibility analysis.
- Bid Strategy & Risk Assessment: Develop bid strategies, assess risks, and ensure proposals align with company capabilities and market conditions.
- Team Management & Development: Lead and mentor the preconstruction and estimating teams, fostering professional growth and continuous improvement.
- Market & Industry Analysis: Stay informed on industry trends, pricing fluctuations, and competitor strategies to enhance the company’s market position.
- Technology & Process Improvement: Implement best practices and utilize industry-leading preconstruction and estimating software to improve efficiency and accuracy.
Qualifications
To be successful in the role you will need 10+ years of experience in preconstruction, estimating, and project planning within the concrete construction industry, alongside proven ability to manage and deliver accurate preconstruction services for large capex projects. A bachelor’s degree in construction management, Civil Engineering, Business, or a related field is preferred.
