Job Description
We are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead large-scale heavy civil infrastructure projects on behalf of our client. This role is critical in developing accurate cost estimates, evaluating risks, and delivering competitive proposals for projects such as highways, bridges, underground utilities, water/wastewater systems, and site development.
You’ll work closely with executives, project managers, and field teams to prepare winning bids, ensure constructability, and drive cost efficiency. As a senior leader, you’ll also mentor junior estimators and contribute to long-term growth in the heavy civil market.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead preparation of detailed cost estimates for heavy civil construction projects.
- Review design documents, specifications, and requirements to identify scope, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop quantity take-offs, pricing models, and vendor/subcontractor solicitations.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client presentations.
- Oversee bid proposals, budgets, schedules, and cash flow projections.
- Collaborate with project management and field operations for seamless handoff.
- Mentor junior estimators and support staff.
- Stay current on market pricing, construction means and methods, and industry trends.
- Contribute to strategic business development by analysing competitors and market positioning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil projects (highways, bridges, utilities, site development).
- Proven success delivering accurate estimates for projects $10M–$200M+.
- Proficiency with estimating software (HCSS HeavyBid, On-Screen Takeoff, Bluebeam, etc.).
- Strong knowledge of materials, methods, and cost analysis.
- Excellent communication, analytical, and organisational skills.
- Leadership experience mentoring and managing teams.
