Job Description

We’re looking for a highly analytical Structural or Geotechnical Engineer with advanced knowledge in dynamic analysis and a passion for understanding how soil and structural systems interact. This is not a typical design role, it involves developing physics-based models that simulate complex behaviors in high-stakes environments, including seismic and extreme hazard scenarios.

If you’re driven by cutting-edge modeling, numerical simulation, and system-level thinking, we encourage you to apply, even if your background doesn’t align with every requirement.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform advanced dynamic analyses including nonlinear soil behavior and structural response
  • Build high-fidelity numerical models incorporating:
    • Soil-structure interaction
    • Contact behavior and boundary conditions
    • Internal and kinematic response mechanisms
    • Wave propagation in layered systems
  • Evaluate infrastructure under natural hazards (earthquake, wind, tornado), factoring in uncertainty and performance variability
  • Contribute to seismic hazard assessments including:
    • Time-history development and response spectra
    • Ground motion scaling and variability modeling
  • Integrate geotechnical and structural data into unified engineering solutions

Requirements

  • MS in Civil, Structural, or Geotechnical Engineering (PhD preferred)
  • 3+ years of experience with dynamic analysis, finite element modeling, and simulation
  • Proven background in technical project delivery, research, or publications
  • Clear and concise technical writing and presentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
    • Soil dynamics and pressure-dependent material behavior
    • Time-history and frequency-domain methods
    • Performance-based and nonlinear design approaches
    • Structural failure modes and damage modeling
    • Advanced FE tools and solution methods (implicit or explicit solvers)
  • Experience with safety-critical or regulated projects
  • Knowledge of nuclear infrastructure, radiation effects, or thermal degradation
  • Exposure to probabilistic risk assessment (PRA) frameworks

Why Apply?

  • Contribute to safety-critical, high-impact projects
  • Work with top-tier experts on cutting-edge simulations
  • Tackle complex engineering challenges with national significance
  • Enjoy competitive compensation, benefits, and a collaborative environment

How to Apply

If you’re passionate about solving dynamic engineering problems and working at the frontier of structural and geotechnical science, we’d love to hear from you.
